It is funny how satellite navigation seems to be the thing to do these days. I reckon that as the sales of Garmin 695 increase the sales of maps decrease. The thing that worries me is that we will get so used to someone else navigating for us, if we have a problem with our satellite navigation system then we may not be able to use the map to find our way. This could cause really big problems if we are lost or have no idea where we are for some reason. I have decided that I will make sure that my children are familiar with map reading as even if they have a Garmin 696 they may still need to find their way without it someday. As a student I walked all around a strange city and I always had a map with me. I planned my route before I started and then often found that I was lost but could easily refer to my map and find out where I was and correct my route. I always had my map with me and I was never worried about where I was. I think that I would not have explored so much without it and even had I a Garmin 196 I would not have had so much confidence that I could find my way back home again.
